7.5.08

***note, i also added a "7.4.08" post from the day before just now***

Day 29,

today was the big day. our last show here in Europe, our last day here in Europe, and the day we were playing the Cry Me A River Fest (note: CMaRF is put on every year in Germany by Lars from React With Protest Records. it's a weekend full of friends to celebrate his label and diy punk/hardcore/screamo bands from all over Europe. shit rules). so anyways, we woke up early in Wiesbaden and headed over to the Bielefeld, Germany area (not really sure what city it was in..but it was close to Bielefeld).

so yeah, woke up, jumped in our van (accompanied by our buddy Sven [who loves to drink beer all the time]), and us and the Kontrapunkt guys headed off.

it wasnt a far drive at all (i think like 3 hours). it was nice. when we got to the area, we were pretty surprised to find a total farm-land, boonie-ass area...which we got very much lost in...that looked like this...

...after running into some helpful punks, we were pointed in the right direction and got to the area where the fest was at. it was like in this huge part of land...it looked like a country club or something. that looked like this...

...that was the parking area.

...that was the outdoors/kick-it-spot (and in that building was where the show was).

...that's where people could set up tents for the weekend.

...the mass amounts of band merch/distros inside.

...and that's where the bands played.

so yeah, apparently before the weekend even came, the whole fest sold out from pre-sale tickets...so i think there was like 300-400 people there (including all the bands and junk). so yeah, we knew shit was gonna be fuuuuuuuuuckin crazy.

oh! so check this out. on this tour, we ran out of the "Burn Your Bones" LPs. but Robert (dude who put it out) had like 6 copies left of the vinyl, without covers. soooo, we got those from them and decided to make special "Cry Me A River Fest" covers for them and sell them at this show. soooooo, we thought it would be a rad idea for all 5 of us to each make our own cover (cept Juan made 2). so yeah, throughout the whole day, we all spent a while thinking of ideas and putting shit together and making our covers...here is what they looked like in the end...

...those were Juan's.

...Jack's drawing.

...Steven's polaroid cover (much thanks to Hilke for the polaroids).

...Wes made a pretty siq-looking mask out of his cover. (you can't really tell, but that "comadre" thing tied to that America-ass ribbon is totally a real necklace).

...and mine. (a siq-ass stencil). i think it did well summing up this tour...

anyways, so we put them out and sold them to these people...

...i actually think each one of those covers fit that person who bought them very well. hah. oh, and oh yeah, the cover i made, we used in a little game we thought would be very fit for it...

....that's right. if you wanted it. you had to write your name down on the list, and then at the end of our set, everyone signed up would roll the fuckin dice to see who wins the official, Comadre, 1 out of 1, "roll the fuckin dice" LP.

so anyways, in the meantime, a bunch of reaaaaally amazing bands played. (i took a few pictures of them, but didnt come out that good. plus, there were like 2348293 other people who were taking way better pictures i'm sure of all the bands...i will post links when i find links on the next blog or something). so yeah, my faves of the day were Grinding Halt (who Mark, their singer, rules, and set up our show in Holland earlier on the tour), June Paik (who were reaaaallly reaaaaaally good), and Trainwreck (who just destroyed hard).

and oh yeah, during T-wreck, you KNOW they had a little special surprise guest...

...those first 3 pictures, i dunno where i was during that time...and the last 2 pics, for some reason i couldn't find Wes.

after Trainwreck was Titan (who were from Canada...and also way rad and way nice guys), and then were Zann who were as heavy and siq as usual. then we played last and dude, i dont even wanna talk about it. shit was SO fuckin nuts and SOOOOOO much fun. kids were going crazy, singing along, dancing, major crowdsurfs and stage dives. i cant say enough how amazing it was and how it was just the best way to end this SIQ tour. i'll just let these 2 pictures speak for themselves...

so anyways, the party did not end there. like promised, after our set, we called in all the people who had signed up for the dice roll and had the BIGGEST fuckin gambling storm eeeeeever. just straight street style n' shit on the stage. hah. that looked like this...

...and in the end, after 30 people rolled, then 5 people in the simi-finals, and 2 people in final-final...this man came out triumphant as the official "Comadre, roll the fuckin dice, champion"...

fuck.

what a good day. after all of that, we packed up our shit, took off a bunch of super wet and sweaty clothes, said some of the saddest goodbyes and gave some of the longest hugs ever, and jumped into our van to head to the airport.

fuck.

thanks everyone.

"siq shit" today (although there's prob too many):
1. kids from ALL over Europe traveling out.
2. kids from ALL over Europe being the most funnest kids ever.
3. the girls-only-stage-dive song that we played. i believe the words "destroy these dudes in the front" came out of my mouth.
4. the official dice-roll-list

5. this whole tour.

7.4.08

Day 28,

woke up in Gottingen, walked over back to the venue for breakfast. we had some super awesome vegan b.l.t.z. shit was dope, as usual.

we said our goodbyes to the awesome kids from the venue, jumped into the van, and headed towards Wiesbaden, Germany. the drive was the usual 3-ish awesome hours. on the way, we stopped at some rando rest stop to roll the dice...

...in the end, Wes came up like 10 Euro er something. homeboy had some hot hands.

we got to Wiesbaden kinda early and had some time to kill, so we took a stroll down to the city's center and checked out its assorted, mass amounts of shit shops...

...i found a shop full of postcards...i (again) thought about buying and sending one to Jessika...but then realized that i would rather spend my money on gambling later.

after a while, and being mislead by a shop's "hip hop summer special" (it suxd, like, real bad) and Steven buying a "falafel" from some phony-ass place called "Falafel City" or someshit like that (its like, back home, you would never get food at "Burrito Town" right?) ...we got back to the venue.

we hung out with the Kontrapunkt guys back at the venue. and met Flo, who was an awesome kid and putting on the show. after a while, they served up dinner. it looked like this...

...those stuffed tomatoes were pretty ill.

after dinner, Wes and I started to roll the dice...but only with small change (like centz n shit). but soon after, Juan joined, then Felix, then we caught the attention of the Kontrapunkt guys...

...and those Kontrapunkt guys got hooked fast i think. got bit by the bug...that fast cash/clackity-clackity-clack/hot handz/rollin deep/1-2-3 bug. i think in the end, Wes won the largest pull (AGAIN. motha fucka was really on a tight roll).

anyways, we stopped cause the show began. the first band (person) was this kid doing electronic/noise stuff. it was just him on a mic and a CD full of beats n shit. it was cool. after that, Mind Trap played and were rad. really chaotic stuff, very tech. and then Kontrapunkt played after that. their bass player had a broken wrist, but dude didnt give a fuuuuuck. still played and still ruled. and after that Trainwreck played (oh yeah, didnt mention that they were at the show too! met back up with these dudes today [well, not all of them, cause Martin was too sick to come]). they played and were really good...very much killed it. we played after that. shit was cool. there was much beer spillage, kids on inflatable boogie-boards, inflatable beach balls, n crowd surfz. it was fun.

a good amount of kids drove out to this show too. a bunch of people we met on pervious days of the tour.

after all of the bands played, us, Kontrapunkt, and the T-wrecks kicked it hard at the venue (we were all sleeping there too)...and after a few minutes (and a few dranken beerz)...we broke out the tables, chairs, and shit was on...

...shit was rough this time around for 'ol-big-Kenster...i think i lost like 8-10 Euro. i think Steven lost almost the same. Juan came up a hard 20+ Euro at the end. i know Jack did super well too (homeboy was a cold-starter at first though, but pulled through for his pocket in the end). team Maria and Felix did RIDICULOUSLY well. i think they came up the hardest together. and Winkie was rolling some IMPOSSIBLE rolls. that dude was way lucky...and Wes...damn...Wes was cold as ice. (hah...i think he lost most of his winnings from all day on these rollz...but ya know, datz just what happens when u roll the dice. can't always stay up...but u gotta keep playin!).

after alllllll of that, we set up our beds, sleeping bags and i crashed out. i know some of the kids stayed up in the other room hanging and drinking. i was just too damn tired already to rage. bummerz. overall, second-to-last day, very good.

"siq shit" i'm kinda buzzed, it's all because:
1. the poster we modified for today's show...

2. this dude (that probably shouldn't be) hanging out with these (probably bummed out) kids...

3. these soccer-goal urinals...

4. all the ridiculous "happy birthday America" jokes that came out of our mouths today.
5. all the dice rolling that went on today...and running into the Kontrapunkt guys all day and having them be like..."uhhhh, we are still rolling the dice later right???"...hah! (hooked by the rush!)
